Back to Dumbo
If you are visiting New York or even living in the city you should definitely go over bridges and take off to Brooklyn. To be honest I don’t know the Bronx. I know that Astoria, in Queens, is very hype but I have not hung out there that often. Something that I can assure you is that Brooklyn is a great borough. Manhattan is incredible in the way that neighborhoods have their own heritage and personality following the blocs. Brooklyn is just as great as Manhattan or even better. So many different communities live in in this part of the city. Williamsburg is until now, one of the most famous area of the borough, but lovely areas such as GreenPoint, Brooklyn Heights, Bushwick, Dumbo or Red Hook and even Flatbush are atypical places to visit. That day, everything was grey and cold and it happened that we hung a bit in Dumbo. Dumbo is a neighborhood very closed to Brooklyn heights. It is very special for its unique view on the city and the buildings. Also it is special to be there because the Manhattan Bridge, which goes over the East River all the way to the China Town and the Lower East Side, starts in Dumbo. Just in-between Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan one, Dumbo develops its “hypeness” with trendy bars, restaurants or books stores. The streets are made of pavements and the view on bridges makes it so beautiful. If you do run often or just seek for another way of seeing the city, the Brooklyn Bridge Park and the famous Jane’s Carousel are just around the corner.
I still think that Dumbo is developing its old buildings to amazing ones and offer a totally different atmosphere than in Brooklyn Heights or Williamsburg. Galleries, open spaces, thrift shops and much more is happening in Dumbo and is not ready yet to stop.
